Review: Between Shades Of Gray by Ruta Sepetys

Hello lovelies!
Today I want to talk to you about Ruta Sepetys' book 'Between Shades Of Gray'. This books takes place in 1941  follows Lina and her family, who are taken from their home in Lithuania by the Soviets and deported first to Sibiria and then to the North Pole.

Jesus, this book got me hooked. I had no idea the Soviets actually did this to people from Lithuania, Lativa and Estonia. I think because of all the horrible things Hitler did in Germany around that time, no one really noticed? I don't know either way it's horrible.

Now, normally I am not the right person to read books like that. I can't really deal with them emotionally. I once watched the Boy in the Striped Pyjama and couldn't eat for three days. Nevertheless, I really wanted to read this book and so I did and let me tell you, I don't regret it.

Even though it's YA, nothing is sugar-coated at all and I think that's why this books is so powerful.

You follow the characters on their journey and you completely fall in love with all of them. I got so attached to every single character in this book it's ridiculous.

SO, if you haven't read this book GO PICK THIS UP NOW NOW NOW.

Okay I am going to talk about spoiler-y things below the cut so don't go there if you haven't read the book.

Okay here we go.

Firstly, I don't think I have ever read a book where I cried more than in this one.

I fell in love with every single character. Lina, Jonas, ELENA, Andrius, hell even Nikolai and Mr. Stalas.

I started sobbing when the Soviets told Elena, Kostas had been shot. I just ... Jesus. But I cried even worse when Elena died. I literally lay in my bed sobbing in the middle of the night, it was so, so sad.

Favorite Character?
It has got to be Elena.

Least Favorite Character?
Ivanov, DUH!

Favorite Relationship?
This book wasn't really about romance so none. I did enjoy Lina and Andrius together though it was always clear that the book wasn't about love.
